Definitions of select terms
Agender: Someone who does not feel like they have a gender identity.
Asexual: Someone who does not experience sexual attraction, but may experience romantic attraction.
Bisexual: Someone who experiences sexual attraction to both men and women.
Cis or cisgender: Someone who is "comfortable in skin" and adheres to their gender based on their sex. Also called "gender-normative."
Demisexual: Someone who only experiences sexual attraction after a strong emotional bond has been formed.
FTM: Female to male transition.
Genderfluid: Someone whose gender identity fluctuates.
Gender expression: How someone dresses, does their hair, etc and how that contributes to how people perceive their gender.
Gender identity: Someone's individual perception of their gender, how they label themselves. Not necessarily the same as someone's sex.
Heterosexual: Someone who experiences sexual attraction to the opposite gender only.
Homosexual: Someone who experiences sexual attraction to the same gender only.
LGBTQA+ : The standard acronym representing those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, questioning, or asexual.
MTF: Male to female transition.
Pansexual: Someone who is attracted to all genders of people. Can be attracted to a person, regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.
Queer: An umbrella term encompassing everyone on the LGBTQA+ spectrum. Also used for those who do not feel like any label in particular fits them.
Sex: The biological and physiological characteristics that define men and women.
Transgender: People who identify as the opposite gender than what they were born as.
Transsexual: Someone who has received an operation to switch their sex.
